All I'm arguing above is that the genderswap and common experience is central and textually foregrounded in a way the friendship isn't (b/c the latter is a common slash trope whereas the former isn't).
And my initial statement with which you disagreed was: es, of course this would not have happened had they not been friends and had that underlying bond already.
I NEVER discounted the bond...only didn't see it as sufficient or unique.
