I do get exactly what you mean about being certain something's right, so you don't even think to double-check. It's very easy to let random bits slip by, which is where a good beta can really help. Or three good betas.

This particular story was good enough that I kept reading and enjoyed it. All too often, I find the canon inconsistencies herald a larger problem with characterization or plotting or style - poor writing all around.
