Strangely, they really do wear sneakers (http://community.livejournal.com/sg_research/9768.html#cutid1). Or at least some kind of hiking shoes. It's those dratted Atlantis uniforms holding sway.
Elizabeth being called "Liz" is an almost guaranteed way to get me to stop reading a story - Auburn has the single instance of that working for me, because she glares at the offender and they slink away. It seems so very contrary to her nature to accept a diminutive, especially since she needs to hold onto every ounce of authority she can muster.
I agree completely that I'm not bothered if something is written in a story that's later contradicted on screen. But I've stayed fairly up to date with my reading in SGA, so it's rare that I come across an older story and would have the opportunity to take issue.
Poor writing. Oh god, yes. Even beyond the obvious spelling and grammar errors, there's style to consider. Clunkiness or emotional leapfrogging will almost always make me stop reading, because it's so awkward an experience.
