I think this is an excellent way to look at it, because we read things according to our generic expectations, and reading it as SLASH, these were the things I was expecting as well...and that then weren't there and that was a good thing to a certain degree and disappointing on another (see below :-)

And I get your point of treating both scenarios equally realitic and in terms of a possible future...
