The interesting thing for me was that I did not read that first scene as happening on earth; I read it as happening on Atlantis, with a confusion of reality/fantasy, and that there was no guarentee that the two would survive. I didn't think that Jeannie and the picnic was real when I first read through the story, so that made it a different experience for me.
